The first journal to provide comprehensive peer-reviewed coverage of biospecimen procurement, processing, preservation and banking, including ethical, legal, and societal considerations.

Best Practices

ISBER’s Best Practices for Repositories, 5th Edition
The ISBER Best Practices, Fifth Edition: A New Process for Relevance in an Evolving Landscape presents the most effective practices for the management of biological and environmental specimen collections and repositories. It is the definitive, global guide for managing and operating biobanks. These are either evidence-based or consensus-based practices for collection, long-term storage, retrieval and distribution of specimens. They promote the availability of high-quality biological and environmental specimens for future research.

NCI Best Practices
The National Cancer Institute (NCI) developed the NCI Best Practices for Biospecimen Resources based on extensive research and expert input into the state of NCI-funded biospecimen resources and the quality of biospecimens used in cancer research. The NCI Best Practices outline the operational, technical, ethical, legal and policy best practices for NCI-supported biospecimen resources.

Education Programs

Qualification in Biorepository Science (QBRS)
ISBER and ASCP BOC introduced the Qualification in Repository Science (QBRS) for biobankers. Upon meeting specific educational and experience requirements for the qualification, candidates will be eligible to complete an online examination and, if successful, gain recognition for their skills and competencies as biobankers. This new qualification will further advance the field of biorepository science!
