ISBER Outstanding Achievement in Biobanking | Marianna Bledsoe

Marianna Bledsoe, MA, is an independent consultant on biobanking and research regulatory and policy issues. She is also Deputy Editor for the journal, Biopreservation and Biobanking and Chair of the ISBER Science Policy Advisory Committee. The ISBER Award for Outstanding Achievement in Biobanking, sponsored by Worthington Industries, is designed to recognize individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the field of biobanking. The award can be given for a single outstanding achievement or a lifetime body of outstanding work in the field.

ISBER Founder’s Award | William Grizzle

William E. Grizzle, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Pathology at University of Alabama at Birmingham educated in chemistry, physics, biology and medicine. Grizzle’s laboratory is focused on understanding the molecular features of epithelial cancers such as prostate, pancreas, mammary, colorectal and ovarian adenocarcinomas as well as squamous cell lesions of oral cavity, esophagus, lung, cervix and skin in order to identify biomarkers associated either with early pre-invasive neoplastic lesions or with advanced stage malignant lesions. Of special interest are biomarkers that can be used to aid in determining prognosis or risk assessment or in predicting therapy. The ISBER Founder’s Award, sponsored by Chart MVE, recognizes individuals who have provided outstanding leadership to the founding, support, and incorporation of ISBER as an international biobanking society. The recipient of this award is selected by the ISBER Nominating Committee.

ISBER Distinguished Leadership and Service Award | Daniel Simeon-Dubach

Daniel Simeon-Dubach, MD, MHA, is owner of Medservice, biobanking consulting & services. This award is designed to honor ISBER members who have demonstrated exceptional leadership to further the mission and goals of the society and/or significant, long-standing contributions to the society.

ISBER Travel Award | Anna Pidubbna

This year Anna Pidubbna, MD, PhD, has worked with the Ukrainian human biospecimen CRO East West Biopharma. Dr. Piddubna held fellowships from European AIDS Clinical Society and International AIDS Society in 2015-2017 and has held academic and physician roles in the field.

ISBER 2019 Special Service Award | Monique Albert

Monique Albert, M.Sc is the Director of the Ontario Tumour Bank at the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research in Toronto, Canada. Ms. Albert serves as the ISBER Director-at-Large, Americas, and volunteers in a number of additional roles, including as Chair of the ISBER Internal Audit Tools Taskforce reporting to the Standards Committee. She also had the privilege of co-chairing the Program Committee for the ISBER 2017 Annual Meeting in Toronto.

ISBER 2019 Special Service Award | Bill Mathieson

Bill Mathieson, PhD, of the Integrated Biobank of Luxembourg is a member of the ISBER Biospecimen Science Working Group, is European Editor of Biopreservation and Biobanking and serves on the Scientific Review Board for the Wales Cancer Bank.

ISBER 2019 Special Service Award | Alison Parry-Jones

Alison Parry-Jones, BSc, MA, PhD, MRSC, is the Manager of the Wales Cancer Bank (WCB). She is the Director-at-Large for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region for ISBER, and was a Co-Chair of the Scientific Program Committee for the ISBER 2017 annual conference in Toronto. She is one of two UK representatives on the common service ELSI team for the European BBMRI consortium and is a member of the Steering committee for the UKCRC Tissue Directory and Coordination Centre, as well as being a member of the Marble Arch international biobank leaders group.

ISBER 2019 Special Service Award | Catherine Seiler

Catherine Seiler, PhD, is the Sr. Manager of Biosample Operations at Kaleido Biosciences in Lexington MA. An active ISBER member since 2009, she’s the current Chair of the Communications Committee and the ISBER New Blog Editor.

ISBER 2019 Special Service Award | Xiaoyan Zhang

Xiaoyan Zhang is Director of China medicinal biotech association, General secretary of the National Technical Committee 559 on Bio-specimen of standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC559), and a faculty member of the Scientific research management department of the National Engineering Center for Biochip at Shanghai.
