- FINBB and Owkin collaborate to advance AI integration in medical research, leveraging extensive biobank data for innovative solutions.
- Partnership grants access to 11 million biobank samples, enabling innovative drug discovery and development.
- Initial focus on inflammatory bowel disease, streamlining biobank data to accelerate targeted treatment research.
Owkin, a pioneering AI-driven biotech startup, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Finnish Biobank Cooperative (FINBB) to push the boundaries of medical research. This collaboration is set to revolutionize how AI can be applied to multimodal patient data to accelerate the discovery and development of new treatments.
Through this partnership, Owkin will utilize FINBB’s Fingenious® service, a digital platform that provides seamless access to millions of patient samples and clinical data from all public biobanks in Finland. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in integrating AI with biobank resources, particularly benefiting research into inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the first focus of their joint efforts.
The partnership is expected to streamline and harmonize the use of biobank samples, making the process more efficient for researchers. Marco Hautalahti, CEO of FINBB, highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in driving innovation, emphasizing that this collaboration could develop innovations and benefit patients suffering from serious diseases like IBD.
The data generated through these projects will be returned to the biobanks, thereby enriching their collections and creating a continuous cycle of value for patients and the healthcare system. This partnership not only strengthens Finland’s position as a leader in biobanking but also underscores the potential of AI to transform medical research.
