Digitcool Alpha CBS is an innovative, monitored workstation designed for the handling of frozen products—such as those used in cell-based therapies—at ultra-low temperatures down to -150°C.
CRYO BIO SYSTEM, already well-known for its high-security solutions for biorepositories and biobanks (sealed straws and sealed cryovials), now offers a unique technology built on its expertise with the Digitcool range of controlled-rate freezers.
Powered by liquid nitrogen vapor, the DIGITCOOL ALPHA CBS provides a monitored, precise, and secure solution for handling cryopreserved biological materials at temperatures as low as -150°C, for several hours. The system supports four temperature levels: -20°C, -40°C, -80°C, and -150°C.
Maintaining the cold chain is a major challenge during the manufacturing process or when manipulating and handling frozen biological samples, particularly when they need to be transferred to a new biorepository site.
To date, most solutions used during these critical steps are either unmonitored or only partially monitored. Uncontrolled warming events can occur, as maintaining precise and stable temperatures is difficult. This not only compromises the quality and integrity of the biological samples but also poses safety risks for personnel especially due to potential exposure to liquid nitrogen (LN2). These factors can have a significant impact on both the samples and the overall handling process.
A secure, customizable, all-in-one workstation
To address these challenges, the DIGITCOOL ALPHA CBS workstation is the missing link for all professionals dealing with these issues on a daily basis.

Its large chest can be configured with 1 to 4 buckets of various sizes to accommodate different types of consumables—ranging from large blood bags to mid-sized CAR-T containers or cryovials—for reassignment to new storage boxes and relabeling procedures.
Thanks to Cryo Bio System’s expertise in controlled-rate freezing (CRF) with its Digitcool range, the DIGITCOOL ALPHA CBS workstation is not only monitored in real time but also offers exceptional temperature stabilization for several hours—even with the lid open. This allows operators to perform their tasks under optimal conditions, previously unattainable.
Operators can work comfortably at room temperature while handling valuable biological materials at precisely maintained ultra-low temperatures, as low as -150°C, making this product truly unmatched in the current market.
Connected to a 150-liter self-pressurized liquid nitrogen (LN2) vessel, the DIGITCOOL ALPHA CBS can reach the target temperature within minutes. Once stabilized, the system maintains the temperature with an accuracy of ±1°C inside the configured bucket layout. For extended operation time, an upgrade to a 230-liter vessel is available.
An LED color-coding system along the workstation’s sides provides visual feedback to guide the operator through process stages and alerts in case of temperature deviations or system faults.

From an ergonomic perspective, the lid is motorized, eliminating the need for physical effort to open it. A foot switch (fig.1) allows operators to open the lid easily, even when their hands are occupied with sample boxes. The workstation’s armrest area, where operators position their arms during handling, features a warming system (fig.2) to ensure operator comfort over extended periods.
The system also includes secure electrical power management (UPS) to ensure reliable and uninterrupted operation.(fig.3)
